Where to stay at a glance
- Closest to the boats: Leeward, 2 to 5 minutes from the marinas where 16 of our 23 private charters leave, along with every jet ski and group tour.
- Best all-rounder: Grace Bay, 10 to 15 minutes from Leeward and about 10 from Turtle Cove, with the most shuttles.
- Best for the big yachts: the Turtle Cove area, home port of several luxury yachts.
- Best for calm, shallow water: Long Bay, 5 to 10 minutes from the Leeward marinas.
- Can you stay anywhere? Yes. Guests come to every boat from all over the island. Only the drive changes.
Grace Bay: the easy all-rounder
Best for: first-timers who want the beach and the boats

Is Grace Bay a good base for boat trips?
It’s the most convenient all-round choice. Grace Bay is the island’s resort strip, a little over three miles of white beach on the north shore, with the water in front of it inside Princess Alexandra National Park. The Leeward marinas are 10 to 15 minutes away by car, Turtle Cove about 10.
It’s also where the shuttles run. Two boats offer a free shuttle from central Grace Bay resorts, the Adventure Boats offer round-trip transport and beach pickups at select resorts, and the group tours run a hotel shuttle from the Grace Bay area. The ATV tours pick up free here too.

Leeward: wake up next to the boats
Best for: villa groups who want to be on the water first

Which part of Providenciales is closest to the boats?
Leeward, the island’s eastern tip. Blue Haven Marina and Heaving Down Rock Marina sit on the channel facing Little Water Cay, and from the homes and villas of Leeward they’re 2 to 5 minutes away. Most of our charters leave from here, and so does every jet ski tour and group excursion.
It’s also the closest point to the Caicos Cays. Our island hopping guide shows what’s waiting across the channel.

Turtle Cove: on the doorstep of the big yachts
Best for: luxury yacht days and a short airport run

Is Turtle Cove a good place to stay for boat trips?
For the big yachts, yes. Turtle Cove Marina is a sheltered harbor in the middle of the north shore, and several of the larger luxury yachts leave from it. Stay nearby and the dock is about 5 minutes away, with the airport 5 to 10, and restaurants line the water, handy for dinner after an afternoon charter.

Long Bay: calm water on the south shore
Best for: families with small children and kiteboarders

How far is Long Bay from the marinas?
Closer than it looks on a map. Long Bay faces the shallow Caicos Banks rather than the open ocean, so its water is calm and knee-deep for a long way out, which is why kiteboarders love it. The La Famille Express, the freighter stranded on the banks, sits about two miles offshore. The Leeward marinas are 5 to 10 minutes away by car, and the free shuttles on two of our boats cover Long Bay resorts.
Chalk Sound: the quiet southwest
Best for: couples who want calm water at the door

Is Chalk Sound far from the boats?
It’s the farthest from most of them, and the views make up for it. Chalk Sound is a milky-turquoise lagoon dotted with small rocky islets, ringed by villas. Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay, two calm, shallow beaches, are close by. From here Turtle Cove is about 15 minutes by car and the Leeward marinas 25 to 30.
